Item is a well-written, often humorous journal by a Dr. Vincent. He describes the life of passengers travelling second class on a sailing ship from England to New York. Of special interest are the suggested list of supplies that passengers bring for the crossing and Vincent's impressions of America, in particular New York, Niagara Falls, and Hamilton. There is also an undated poem, "A voice from the penitentiary" by an anonymous author.
