Biographie / Histoire administrative
The Nakina Agency opened on 1 April 1955. It was created by the transfer of a number of Native bands from the Sioux Lookout, Port Arthur, Chapleau and James Bay agencies. The Nipigon, Long Lake #58 and #77, and Whitesand bands came from the Port Arthur Agency; Fort Hope and Martin Falls from Sioux Lookout; Constance Lake from Chapleau, and English River Post from the James Bay Agency.
Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. Nakina Agency became Nakina District on 1 April 1972 and administered the bands of Aroland, Constance Lake, Fort Hope, Landsdowne House, Long Lake, Martin Falls, Summer Beaver and Webequie. It was later re-organized into the Western District on 1 April 1988. RG10 General Inventory
