Biographie / Histoire administrative

In 1959, the Terrace Agency was created. It had jurisdiction over the Kitamaat Band formerly under the Bella Coola Agency and the Gitlakdamix, Kitsumkalum, Lakalzap, Canyon City and Kitselas Bands formerly under the Skeena River Agency. Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The Terrace Agency became the Terrace District office in December, 1971. This Office was amalgamated with Babine District and the North Coast District in 1976 to form a larger Terrace District. In 1977 the Gitksan Carrier District was divided from the Terrace District and in 1978, the Terrace District became the Northwest District office.
