Biographie / Histoire administrative
Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. Williams Lake District Office was located in Williams Lake, BC and was established when the name changed from Williams Lake Agency to Williams Lake District in December, 1971.
The office was responsible at that time for: Alexandria, Alexis Creek, Alkali Lake, Anaham, Canim Lake, Canoe Creek, Kluskus, Nazko, Nemaiah Valley, Quesnel 359, Soda Creek, Stone, Toosey, Ulkatcho, and Williams Lake. In early years the Williams Lake Agency was also known as Lillooet Agency and was established in 1883 as one of three new Agency offices in British Columbia, the other two being the Northwest Coast and the Kamloops-Okanagan Agencies.
