Biographie / Histoire administrative
Following the creation of the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development in 1966, agencies were joined to form larger administrative units called districts. The James Bay District Office, with headquarters at Moose Factory, was established 15 October 1969 (see RG 10, vol. 11092, file 411/1-1 v. 2). Responsibility for reserves located in Quebec, which had been added to the mandate of the predecessor James Bay Agency in 1955, was apparently transferred from the James Bay District Officere by 1972. The James Bay District Office was responsible for the follwoing communities and reserves: Albany (1969-1989), Attawapiskat (1969-1989), East Main (1969-1972), Fort George (1969-1972), Great Whale River (1969-1972), Moose Factory (1969-1989), Namiska (1969-1972), New Post (1969-1989), Old Factory (1969-1972), Rupert House (1969-1972), and Weenusk (1969-1989).
