Sub-series consists of formal records of corrections made to the Records of Entry where an individual's original record of entry into Canada cannot be located. People whose immigration landing records cannot be located in the Records of Entry (because these are illegible or incomplete, or because the individual does not have sufficient information about his or her arrival) are sometimes formally conceded to have entered Canada legally. Errors in the original records are also corrected through this process, which is also referred to as status adjustment. These records relate to entries into Canada between 1905 and 1918 or entries of uncertain date. The records are in the form of memoranda or letters which state the facts of the person's original entry into Canada and his or her residence in Canada since that point, and recommend that landing be conceded or state that landing has been conceded. In cases where it is recommended that landing be conceded, a handwritten confirmation is added to the document. These documents were removed from case files which have been destroyed routinely, and with authorization, by Employment and Immigration Canada; this sub-series does not therefore include any documents on case files retained by Employment and Immigration Canada or transferred to the National Archives of Canada. Documents relating to amendments of landings after 1918 remain with the Department.
