Information additionnelle

Accession consists of records created by the operational divisions which contain routine investigation information realating to occurrences investigated by the RCMP, or to unsubstantiated information being evaluated to determine if it relates to an actual occurrence. The records were created in Ottawa, St. John's, and Montreal from 1954 to 1992. The files were created in the normal course of business for the RCMP. They are assigned a four digit alpha-numeric code, called an OSR code which classifies a case by the most serious offence arising from an occurrence. The records consist primarily of occurrence reports and supporting evidence. The accession includes records on a wide range of issues from smuggling, bankruptcy, and drug trafficking, to seal hunts, Greenpeace demonstrations, and the native protests at Kahnawake and Akwesasne, to war crimes, the murder of Martin Luther King Jr., and the kidnapping of Pierre Laporte and James Cross.

These are the textual operational records of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Video and audio cassettes were removed from some of the case files included in this accession. Similar case files were accessioned in microfiche.

This accession contains files which were microfiched for preservation purposes.
