Series consists of records of the Municipal Development and Loan Board. The records include 18 ledgers which record loans to municipalities and index cards to these loans classified alphabetically either by municipalities or provinces. These records have become a part of the Department of Finance fonds because of the department's role as a central agency whose terms of reference extend to financial matters across all government activities.

Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Municipal Development and Loan Board was established to administer the Municipal Development and Loan Act. This act, passed in 1963, was designed to promote municipal development across Canada and provided four hundred million for municipalities to be lent at 5.25 per cent interest.
