Biographie / Histoire administrative
In 1904 an NWMP expedition was made to the Hudson's Bay area to open M Division and establish Canadian sovereignty (NWMP, Annual Report, 1904, part IV). The first expedition by the NWMP into the Hudson Bay area was made in 1903 by a six-man team lead by Superintendent J.D. Moodie on board the SS NEPTUNE to open M Division and establish Canadian sovereignty in the area (RNWMP, Annual Report, 1904, Part IV). M Division was established in Fullerton, Hudson's Bay in 1904. It then moved to Churchill (1908-1915) and later to Fort Nelson (1915-1916). From 1919 to 1923 the designation was not in use. It then was reestablished at Macleod between 1924 and 1931. Then, once again, the designation was discontinued, this time for a much longer period, 1931-1974. M Division was resurrected in 1974 and assigned to Whitehorse where it is currently located under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Pacific Region. RG18 General Inventory and RCMP website,
