Biographie / Histoire administrative

As the agency system of administration was introduced into the Treaty No. 3 area of Northwest Ontario, responsibility for the bands was divided amongst the Savanne, Couchiching, and Assabaskasing (later Rat Portage) agencies. A reorganization in 1897 brought these three offices together under the administrative control of the Rat Portage Inspectorate. Shortly thereafter another organizational change brought responsibility for the Rat Portage (later Kenora) and Savanne Agencies together under one agent. According to a 19 September 1906 letter, the Rat Portage Agency was renamed the Kenora Agency to more accurately reflect the location of the agency. The Northwest Angle 34 band amalgamated with the Northwest Angle 37 band in 1916. On 1 October 1969 the Kenora Agency became a part of the Kenora District.
