Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Kootenay Agency was established in 1885 and was located in Wild Horse Creek/Fort Steele, BC (1895-1916) and Cranbrook, BC (1938-1964). During this period the agents included A.W. Vowell (1885-1887); Michael Phillips (1887-1890); R.L.T. Galbraith (1894-1921); F.H. Helmsing (1921- ); E.H. Small (1924- ); F.S. Rickman ( -1931); R. Howe (1935); A. Irwin (1936- ); J.D. Caldwell (1945- ) [Acting]; J.V. Boys (1946); J.S. Dunn (1946-1956); A.E. Fry (1959); and W.A. Anderson (1962-1965). The Kootenay Agency became the Kootenay-Okanagan Agency in 1966. The Central Interior Vancouver District office was created from the amalgamation of the Thompson River District and the Kootenay-Okanagan District offices in 1975.
