Portée et contenu

Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Maniwaki Agency. The series includes a ledgerbook for payments received from timber and leases, etc., details of the timber cut by contract for E.B. Eddy Company, correspondence regarding estates and land issues and seed grain agreements, family allowance. Also included in volumes 9234-9242 are the following: a letterbook (1916-17); timber records and permits, 1961-1964; RCMP reports; seed and grain accounts; miscellaneous correspondence; a register of location tickets; account books; rent books; and cash books.

Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Maniwaki Agency in Quebec included the River Desert, Barriere Lake, Grand Lake Victoria, and Lac Simon Bands. The Maniwaki Reserve was established in 1851 and the first agent was appointed in 1859. The Grand Lake Victoria and Lac Simon Bands were transferred from the Abitibi Agency to the Maniwaki Agency in 1962. In 1968 the Maniwaki Agency merged with the Timiskaming and Abitibi agencies to form the Abitibi District. Regional Administrative Histories, 1958-1990, (Bands, Agencies, Districts).
