Biographie / Histoire administrative
The 73rd Canadian Infantry Battalion was organized in June 1915 under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Peers Davidson under authorization published in General Order 103a of 15 August 1915. The battalion was mobilized in Montreal and recruited in Montreal and in parts of Ontario and Quebec. Recruiting began on 4 September 1915 after the 60th Battalion had finished its recruiting drive.
The battalion embarked at Halifax on 1 April 1916 aboard ADRIATIC, disembarking in England on 9 April 1916. Its strength was 36 officers and 1033 other ranks. The battalion arrived in France on 13 August 1916, becoming part of the 4th Canadian Division. It was later withdrawn and replaced by the 85th Battalion. The battalion personnel were absorbed by the 13th, 42nd and 85th Battalions. The unit was dissolved between 16 and 19 April 1917.
The battalion supported both brass and pipe bands.
The 73rd Canadian Infantry Battalion was perpetuated by The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada.
