Biographie / Histoire administrative

The Wartime Information Board was established in September 1942 (PC 8099) to co-ordinate federal information services during the war, and existed as an enlarged version of its predecessor the Bureau of Public Information. The Board assumed all powers of public information for the duration of the war, and was responsible directly to the Prime Minister. The Board was absorbed by the Canadian Information Service 28 September 1945.

Information additionnelle

LAC has the complete series of images and negatives. Three items were copied, WRP-71 (PA-133262), WRP-200 (PA-117569) and WRP-232 (PA-117570).

Historique de la conservation
In 1943 the Still Photography Division of the National Film Board took over the photographic operations of the Wartime Information Board. WIB was in charge of producing the WR Series that documented the Canadian civilian life during the war and on what Canadians and industry were doing at home to support the military. The increasing interest of the Still Photo Division's in photostories, gave the impetus to the Still Photo Division to continue producing the WR Series that were started by the Wartime Information Board.
