The fonds consists of records largely concerning business, management, and financial aspects of the operations of the rock group Trooper and its predecessor, Applejack. Included are: an historical chronology of the group; financial records concerning Applejack, 1972-1975; files of Trooper's management, 1975-1984, pertaining to such topics as tours, recording projects, relations with MCA and other record labels, promotion, band members and their departures from the group, and legal and financial matters; and financial records concerning Trooper's operations, 1974-1994. Included are such records as correspondence, itineraries, performance and recording contracts, agreements, legal records, promotional material, photographs, financial and royalty statements, ledgers, financial journals, and reports.

Rock group formed in 1972 in Vancouver under the name Applejack. Fronted by Ra (Ramon) McGuire (voice) and Brian Smith (guitar), with Max Feldman serving as manager, Applejack came to the attention of Randy Bachman of Legend Records in 1974. The group soon signed with Legend and in 1975 was re-named Trooper. With eight mainstream commercial rock recordings released during 1975-1982 (mostly on the MCA label), Trooper toured extensively throughout Canada and the United States of America, with performances in concert halls, stadiums, nightclubs, and other venues. Bachman produced the group's first recordings, but this relationship was ended in 1979. Although the band made considerable efforts to break into foreign markets (especially that of the USA), Trooper met its greatest success in Canada and is noteworthy as one of the first rock groups to rise to national prominence primarily on the basis of its strength in the Canadian market. After a period of relative inactivity in the early 1980s, two more recordings were issued during 1989-1991. Trooper's other instrumentation has included bass guitar, drums, and keyboards, with many personnel changes on these instruments over the years. McGuire and Smith, who have shared the group's songwriting, have remained as the core of the band and have provided Trooper with its continuity for over three decades. Trooper's honours and awards include several gold and platinum albums, numerous Juno nominations (for Trooper as a group, and for McGuire and Smith as songwriters), and winning the 1980 Juno award as group of the year.
