A lithograph by Roper which was published in 1883 in "Muskoka: Picturesque Playground of Canada" shows a similar scene as the painting and it is identified as "Hawk's Nest Rock near Port Cockburn, Lake Joseph".

The Island seen in No. 7, is called / Round Island; such a one was frequently purchased / a few years ago for 1 dollar 75 cents (7 shillings) / from the crown, but few, if any, are now to be / bought thus.
