Descendents of Peter Tulugarjuaq noted that when Reverend Peck came to the Arctic to convert Inuit to Christianity, he began with the leaders, who in turn converted their followers. Peter Tulugarjuaq, a well known and influential leader from Blacklead Island, was the first from his community to convert to Christianity.

Title of the photograph in square brackets is based on information provided by Project Naming. This project brings Youth and Elders in Nunavut to work together to identify and record the names of people in photographs held at Library and Archives Canada.
