Information additionnelle

Thomas Bernardo founded homes for destitute children in Britain of whom (8,046 between 1882 and 1901) were sent to Canada and would become agricultural workers

It is estimated that 28,000 children were brought to Canada under the charge of the Barnardo Foundation. 800 boys came through this home in Russell, and were

trained as farm labourers. Separated from their families, many of these children must have been very lonely. In 1925, the Immigration Law was changed so that

children under 14 could not emigrate unaccompanied by their parents
