Portée et contenu

This is the first printed map of the Northern hemisphere from the Arctic pole to 60 degrees north latitude which was originally published in 1595. The map shows the discoveries of Frobisher (1576-78) and Davis (1585-87).

Map is surrounded by a decorative border with 4 circular insets, one containing the title while the other three depict the following islands: Friflant infula. 6 cm in diam. -- Farre Infule. 6 cm in diam. -- Scetland infula. 6 cm in diam.

Historique de la conservation

Purchased by the Public Archives of Canada in September 1980 from a Ottawa map dealer.
