This accession contains operational records of the Secretariat for the Advisory Committee on Northern Development (ACND). The records range in date from 1948, when the committee was formed, to 1981. The ACND studied all aspects of northern development and acted as a centralized information forum for federal government departments and territorial governments involved with the administration of the North. These records were created by the Secretariat's office in support of the ACND and its various committees, and were not integrated into the Northern Affairs Program's central registry. Publications, collections of documents, minutes of committee meetings, and correspondence relating to the following committees, sub-committees, and working groups are included in this accession: the General Committee, the Administration Sub-Committee, the Air Supply Policy Sub-Committee, the Co-Ordination of Construction Sub-Committee, the Employment of Northern Natives Sub-Committee, the Working Group (E.O.S.), the Federal International Co-Ordinating Committee, the Federal Territorial Regional Planning Committee, the Ground Effect Machines Sub-Committee, the Industrial Benefits Sub-Committee, the Northern Communications Sub-Committee, the Northern Health Facilities Sub-Committee, the Northern Roads Sub-Committee/Interdepartmental Advisory Committee on Northern Roads, the Northwest Highway System Sub-Committee, the NWT Co-Ordinating Committee, the Public Information Sub-Committee, the Science and Technology Sub-Committee, the Standardization of Equipment and Vehicles in the North Working Group, and the Transportation Sub-Committee
