Fonds consists of a combination diary and letterbook belonging to Colonel Alexander W. Light of Oxford Township, Upper Canada, ca. 1834-1841 with notes from 1845-1878. The book was given to Light during the winter of 1833-1834 by Captain Philip Graham who had previously entered into it an account of his trip from Niagara to North Oxford in 1833.

Alexander Whalley Light, military officer, joined the 25th (The King's Own Borderers) Regiment of Foot on 1 August 1804 and was commissioned as Colonel of, on 27 May 1825. Prior to that, he received commission as Lieutenant Colonel on 4 June 1811. He appears to have retired from active service ca. 1840 after which he took up residence near Woodstock, Upper Canada.
Information additionnelle
The first 13 pages were written by Captain Philip Graham in 1833. The first half of the diary starting at page 14 was written by Colonel Alexander W. Light in ca.1834, followed by letters from 1838-1841 and notes from 1845-1878. The second half of the diary was also written by Colonel Alexander W. Light in 1835 with notes from 1878.
