Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has a vast collection of documentary material in various media pertaining to Canada's polar heritage and Arctic research. In addition to a wide representation of published holdings such as newspapers, broadsides, federal government reports, online journals and theses, researchers will discover in the archival collections unique perspectives and interpretations about Canada's northern landscape and environment, the people, their culture and history, as well as information about those who visited. Featuring maps, manuscripts, moving images, audio files, photographs and artwork, this Arctic-related material is spread throughout private collections and a number of federal government departments.
These collections of published and unique records of polar heritage represent sources of study and discovery as fascinating as the North itself. Through LAC's digitization projects, Canada's polar heritage will become increasingly accessible online.
