An Evolving PMO
| In the 1870s, following complaints by Alexander Mackenzie that he had to answer his own mail, a secretary was assigned to the prime minister. A century later, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the Privy Council Office outgrew the East Block and were moved to the Langevin Block. For our leaders, the growth of the PMO and the Cabinet secretariat merely allowed them to keep pace with an expanding government. |
