  Requests for Intervention
Although provincial premiers tend to resent federal interference, they are sometimes forced, in emergency situations, to ask the prime minister for direct federal intervention. At the time of the "On To Ottawa Trek," in 1935, Premier R. G. Reid of Alberta requested help from the federal government. Thirty-five years later, Quebec premier Robert Bourassa sought federal assistance during the October Crisis.
