![]() A Prime Minister's Best Friend
Like R. B. Bennett, Mackenzie King was a bachelor. One of King's closest companions was his Irish terrier, Pat, a gift from Joan Patteson in 1924. King and Pat on their daily walk were familiar figures in Ottawa, and Pat was privy to many government secrets. After Pat died in 1941, there were two successors, Pat II and Pat III, but neither commanded as much affection as the first.
