![]() The Chief Is Laid to Rest
John Diefenbaker made his own funeral plans long before his death on August 16, 1979. Following the example of John A. Macdonald, whom he greatly admired, Diefenbaker arranged for his body to lie in state before it was transported by special train to Saskatoon, where he was buried beside the Diefenbaker Centre at the University of Saskatchewan. Once again, Canadians lined the railway tracks to pay their last respects to a fallen Chief. |
