Stella, Princess of the Night (Sky), reassures her little brother, Sacha, that the sky is not on fire, but rather that the sun is setting. She tells him about the marvels of the night: the sun wears pyjamas at night and when the moon comes up, it covers the sun with a starry sheet; when the rooster crows the next morning, the sun jumps into the sky; when it rains, the sun sleeps in. Stella suggests to her little brother that they sleep outdoors, and they are thrilled when they see an owl, bats and racoons. They also discover the moon, fireflies, the Milky Way and some stars that remind them of their grandmother. The silence of the night can be very comforting, like a warm blanket on a nice bed.

Marie-Louise Gay encourages the reader to rediscover the beauty of a sunset and the night sky. She does an excellent job of illustrating the gentle tranquility of the night.
