Language
The Beothuk language may have been part of the Algonkian language family. This means that most of the Native people who inhabited this region spoke similar but not identical languages. There are similar words found amongst the Beothuk and other Algonquin peoples who inhabited the northeast coast of what would become North America. Years ago, an English explorer named William Cormack wrote down some words spoken by the Beothuk and today, these few words are our only link to the Beothuk language.
