ANOTHER SNOWSLIDE ON THE CHILKOOT TRAIL

An Avalanche at Crater Lake Causes Death and Destruction – Seventy Five Killed at Sheep Creek.

Victoria, B.C., April 11. An unverified report states that five hours after the awful avalanche near Sheep Creek there was a third avalanche at Crater Lake, three miles and a half beyond Squaw Hill. The particulars are said to have been telephoned to Skagway. On the margins of Crater Lake hundreds were camped and it is said the fatalities were appalling. Eight bodies, the story has it, were taken within the first few hours and the work of rescue had but well commenced.

Seventy-Five Were Killed

Seattle, Wis., April 11. – At least 75 lives were lost in the snow slide on the Chilkoot Pass. The number may possibly be as high as 100. Sixty-nine bodies have been recovered. The great majority of those killed were from Tacoma, Seattle and California.
