Renovations at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa
In February 2006, Library and Archives Canada began reorganizing the public research areas on the second and third floors of the building at 395 Wellington Street in Ottawa. Renovations to the onsite service areas of Library and Archives Canada reflect the integration of services following the amalgamation of our two institutions. This initiative will enable Library and Archives Canada to provide a truly client-centered service through a comprehensive approach to the dissemination of Canada's documentary heritage.
The reorganization will:
- integrate services for the reference rooms, Genealogy and Family History, specialized media consultation unit and textual records consultation room;
- rationalize the use of equipment by merging the microfilm rooms;
- reduce noise in the third-floor textual records consultation room;
- provide more public seating in the various reference rooms.
Work carried out in the next phases of renovations will cause some disruption in different service areas. Posters in the lobby will show the projected changes to research spaces. On the second and third floors, other posters will inform you as to the nature, the time frame and the location where you can expect to encounter some type of service disruption.
Modified Opening Hours
- Please note that starting Friday August 4, 2006, for a period of about 45 days, the consultation rooms on the second and third floors will close at 8 p.m. every evening.
Temporary Relocation of Services
- Please also note that starting Tuesday August 8, 2006, for a period of about 45 days, certain services offered on the third floor will be temporarily relocated elsewhere in the building.
Temporary Closing of Research Rooms
- The exact dates of this temporary closing will be announced shortly.
