Librarian and Archivist of Canada reacts to the passing of former National Librarian Dr. Jean-Guy Sylvestre

For immediate release

Ottawa, Ontario, September 30, 2010 - It is with great regret that I learned today of the passing of Dr. Jean-Guy Sylvestre, former Librarian of Canada. Before joining the National Library of Canada, Dr. Sylvestre occupied several important positions with the Department of External Affairs, the Office of the Prime Minister and Parliament. Dr. Sylvestre was the 2nd National Librarian of Canada, he served from 1967 to 1983 and was instrumental in helping to shape the National Library.
