To commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812, Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has digitized many of its items related to this historic event to share with Canadians everywhere.
The LAC website will lead visitors to a variety of items related to the War of 1812, including a database of over 40 collections such as the British Military and Naval Records (1757–1906).
In collaboration with the Canadian War Museum (CWM), LAC will exhibit portraits of key figures who played a prominent role in the War of 1812. The exhibition will be held at the CWM from June 2012 to January 2013.
This past February, LAC collaborated with the National Capital Commission (NCC) during Winterlude and showcased the Portraits on the Ice exhibition on the Rideau Canal Skateway. The portrait exhibit highlighted key figures from the War of 1812.
A major nation-building event in Canadian history, the War of 1812 contributed to the development of our national identity, our way of government, and our societal values.
