Administrative history
SOCAN is a non-profit organization founded as a result of the merger of activities of the Composers, Authors and Publishers Association of Canada Ltd.  (CAPAC) and the Performing Rights Organization of Canada Ltd.  (PROCAN).  SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) is responsible for copyrights and distributes royalties to its approximately 50,000 members. 

Scope and content
The fonds contains manuscript music scores (originals and copies) by Canadian composers accumulated by the organization as part of its mandate; a photograph of the interior of a church; and a sound recording of Wray Foulger's song The Tide of Love

Immediate source of acquisition:  acquired from SOCAN in June 1994.
