Telegram to Prime Minister John A. Macdonald announcing the "last spike"
1885

On November 7, 1885, William Cornelius Van Horne sent this telegram to Prime Minister John A. Macdonald. It announces the completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway with the driving of the last spike at Craigellachie, a small hamlet in the Selkirk Mountains.
